Credit scores are used by lenders to determine if they will give you a loan and at which interest rate they will lend it to you. it is important that you check your own credit report very early in the home purchasing process so you know what is on it and to fix any mistakes.

ORDER CREDIT REPORTS
There are three major credit reporting companies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. You can get a free copy of your credit report once per year from all three companies at www.annualcreditreport.com.
CHECK REPORT FOR ERRORS
Look on your credit reports for any debts or credit cards you don’t recognize. Look for items that were resolved in your favor because they are considered still disputable. Remember if you missed a payment or were late these are not considered disputable because they actually happened. A credit score is a number calculated based on the information in your credit report. You actually have many different credit scores, and there are many ways to get a credit score. Your credit report is what determines your credit scores and there are two main types VantageScore and FICO. Your FICO® scores are what is mostly used by mortgage lenders.
